Agroforestry is a sustainable land-use system that integrates trees and shrubs into agricultural landscapes, combining agriculture and forestry to create more productive, diverse, and environmentally beneficial land-use practices. In Ghana, we are implementing the “Atebubu and Wiase Forest Landscape Restoration” project which consists of an agroforestry component to enhance climate change mitigation and adaptation by improving soil fertility, reducing erosion, improving water retention, and boosting biodiversity. The agroforestry component is farmer-led, integrating fruit trees such as mangoes and other high-value cash trees such as cashews and coconuts to boost nutrition, incomes and livelihoods.
